15 May 2018, in the House of Representatives Mr. Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Mr. Valery Kvaratskhelia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Belarus on the occasion of the beginning of his diplomatic mission.
The sides discussed the current issues of development of bilateral relations in the political, trade-economic and humanitarian spheres.
Particular attention during the meeting was devoted to the development of the inter-parliamentary dialogue. The exchange of visits, as well as the preparation of a road map for the Belarusian-Georgian parliamentary cooperation are on the agenda of the deputies. According to Valery Kvaratskhelia’s opinion, an important area of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries can be the exchange of experience in drafting bills, including in the economic sphere.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives noted that Belarus and Georgia cooperate very actively and fruitfully in international organizations. Vladimir Andreichenko informed the Georgian diplomat that the Belarusian delegation plans to include in the agenda of the 27th annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Berlin a resolution on “Promotion of the digital economy in the interests of ensuring the economic growth in the OSCE area”. A message was submitted to the Georgian side requesting the support of the Belarusian initiative by the Georgian parliamentarians.
Discussing the economic block, the Georgian diplomat noted that Belarus and Georgia are good places for each other to promote their goods to the markets of other states. Currently, a number of projects of industrial cooperation between the two countries are being implemented. The issue of the creation in Georgia of a joint enterprise for the production of Belarusian electric buses is in the elaboration.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives stressed that for the full-scale development of cooperation between the countries the Belarusian parliamentarians are working on the creation of the legal basis of bilateral relations.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Valery Voronetsky, Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on International Affairs, and Mr. Vitaly Misevets, Member of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on International Affairs, Head of the Working group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of Georgia.
