October 26, 2019 Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko took part in the general debate at the XVIII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, which takes place in Baku (Republic of Azerbaijan).
During the discussion, which was held under the motto “Defending the Bandung Principles to Ensure a Coherent and Adequate Response to the Challenges of the Modern World”, the Chairman of the House of Representatives made a presentation as the head of the national delegation.
Confirming the commitment of the Republic of Belarus to the
values of the Non-Aligned Movement, as enshrined in the UN Charter, Vladimir Andreichenko
focused on the crucial importance of joining the efforts of non-aligned
countries to maintain peace in the worsening international situation and the
growing unpredictability of global politics.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives expressed confidence that states sharing the Bandung principles can and should play a more significant role in strengthening international security.
Belarus is actively working in this direction, Vladimir Andreichenko noted, and called on the Summit participants to support the initiative of the President of the Republic of Belarus on the resumption of a comprehensive negotiation process on ways to build confidence between states by analogy with the Helsinki process.
Non-aligned countries must formulate a collective vision of a new world order, built on the principles of peace, justice and prosperity for all, said the Chairman of the House of Representatives.
The solution to this problem, in his opinion, could be
facilitated by the holding in 2021 of a conference dedicated to the 60th
anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement. The adoption of a long-term strategic
document based on its results will strengthen the role of non-aligned states in
resolving topical issues on the world agenda.
Vladimir Andreichenko recalled that the Movement has successful experience in promoting such undertakings: the initiative to launch the New International Economic Order in 1973 was transformed into the relevant resolution of the UN General Assembly. In this regard, he called for strengthening the interaction of the countries of the Movement in this global organization, where it has the necessary authority and political potential.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives also voiced the proposal of the Republic of Belarus to devote the observance of the Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy in 2020 to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN. In this way, we, as the Movement, will be able to make a meaningful contribution to strengthening the spirit of multilateralism in the only universal international organization — the UN, Vladimir Andreichenko emphasized.
