On 1 July 2021, the Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE PA continued its work at the 29th Annual Session of the OSCE PA by participating in the online meeting of the General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment.
The meeting was chaired by Doris Barnett (Germany). Members heard a presentation by Committee Rapporteur Elona Gjebrea Hoxha (Albania) on the subject of reinforcing multilateralism in times of global crisis, forging a new post-COVID world order, economic recovery and shaping a sustainable development model.
In the debate, parliamentarians raised issues such as migration management, vaccination against COVID, smuggling, human trafficking, women’s economic empowerment and climate change.
Denis Karas, Member of the Belarusian delegation, informed the parliamentarians about the current situation at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, facts of suppression of channels of illegal transit migration to the EU and trafficking of drugs by the Belarusian side. The commitment of Belarus towards international obligations and its interest in joining efforts in combating common transnational threats was expressed.
