On 15 May 2019, in the House of Representatives H.E. Mr. Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Peter Dettmar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Belarus.
Vladimir Andreichenko thanked Peter Dettmar for his great personal contribution to strengthening relations of Belarus with Germany and the EU, active work in the period of activity in the country which brought good results in political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
It was noted that, recognizing the importance of all other areas, the theme of ensuring the socio-economic well-being of citizens had always been and would be a priority for the Republic of Belarus.
Peter Dettmar expressed his gratitude to the Belarusian parliamentarians for their openness to dialogue, readiness for interaction, mutual understanding, trust and support rendered to him during his work in Belarus. These features that were characteristic of his relations with all the Belarusian state bodies and organizations ensured successful joint work on the development of the bilateral and multilateral cooperation which was always based on human interests.
During the meeting there was an exchange of views on the prospects for the development of trade, economic and investment ties, including interaction issues within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, industrial cooperation, industry 4.0 development and the digital economy. Peter Dettmar stated that he is optimistic about the future of the bilateral relations in these areas. In his opinion, Belarus is an important and suitable place for investment and German companies need to enter this market promptly.
A significant contribution to the solution of this task should be made by the upcoming visits of two large delegations of German business circles to Belarus in June 2019.
The sides noted that issues of humanitarian cooperation, including on historical and Chernobyl-related topics, occupy a special place in relations between the two countries. Human contacts, which are the main element of the Belarusian-German cooperation, are also significant.
At the meeting the sides also discussed plans for the inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries in the nearest future. Among them are issues of mutual support in the framework of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the exchange of experience at the level of parliamentary commissions, and interaction among parliamentary friendship groups.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Valery Voronetsky, chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs, and Ms. Tatiana Kononchuk, chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Environment, Natural Resources and Chernobyl Catastrophe, deputy head of the working groupof the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Cooperation with the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany.
