On 18 February 2020, the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs Andrei Savinykh met with the Head of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Christopher Socha.

During the meeting, an interested exchange of views took place on the prospects for the development of Belarus-US parliamentary cooperation.

Andrei Savinykh noted that Minsk and Washington actively cooperate in areas of overlapping interests. These are issues of human trafficking, healthcare, agriculture and professional exchanges. There are examples of fruitful contacts within the OSCE PA. In the background of these developments and achievements, the time has come for direct contacts between the parliamentary structures.

Сhris Socha informed that the U.S. Congress attaches great importance to this visit. He supported the idea of establishing parliamentary exchanges and expressed hope for continued high-level visits from the United States, which will allow to deepen and re-build relations for the benefit of both countries.

From the Belarusian side the meeting was attended by members of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on International Affairs Valery Voronetsky and Sergei Dik.

From the U.S. side, the meeting was also attended by the US Charge d'Affaires in the Republic of Belarus, Jennifer Moore.
