On 23 September 2020, an online meeting between the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on International Affairs, Head of the Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE Andrei Savinykh, the OSCE PA President George Tsereteli and the OSCE PA Bureau members took place.
The event was dedicated to discussing the current situation in Belarus and possible initiatives of the OSCE PA that could promote an internal political dialogue.
Andrei Savinykh noted that Belarus is interested in holding a broad national dialogue with the participation of labor collectives, public associations and political parties with official status. The result of this process will be the liberalization of the political system of Belarus, the development of new provisions of the Constitution, amendments to the Electoral code and legislation on mass events. At the same time, all changes will be implemented only through an exclusively peaceful and open dialogue aimed at achieving results in the interests of the whole Belarusian state.
The meeting was attended by the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representativesof the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Legislation Svetlana Lyubetskaya, the OSCE PA Secretary General Roberto Montella, the OSCE PA Vice-Presidents Peter Bowness (United Kingdom), Azay Guliyev (Azerbaijan), Kari Henriksen (Norway), Margareta Cederfelt (Sweden), the Chair of the OSCE PA General Committee on Political Affairs and Security Richard Hudson (U.S.A.), the Chair of the OSCE PA General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment Doris Barnett (Germany), the Chair of the OSCE PA General Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions Kyriakos Hadjiyianni (Cyprus), the OSCE PA Special Representative on Civil Society Issues Pia Kauma (Finland), heads of the OSCE PA delegations of Switzerland Josef Dittly and Albania (the country presiding in the OSCE) Ditmir Bushati, as well as the former presidential candidate of the Republic of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
