On 24 September 2020, a meeting was held between the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives, Head of the working group of the National Assembly on cooperation with the Parliament of the People’s Republic of China Valery Mitskevich with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the head of the China-Belarus Friendship Group of the National People’s Congress Zhang Yesui via videoconference.

The Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives noted that the Belarusian side highly appreciates friendly relations with China and expressed gratitude for the constructive position regarding the situation in Belarus, which the People’s Republic of China defends at international platforms, including the UN Security Council. He also spoke in favor of further active development of Belarusian-Chinese relations.

The Vice Speaker said that the visit of the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to Belarus will give an additional powerful impetus to bilateral cooperation, and also expressed his readiness for close cooperation with the Chinese parliament to arrange the visit.

During the meeting, the head of the Chinese-Belarusian Friendship Group of the National People’s Congress Zhang Yesui stressed that China opposes attempts by external forces to sow discord and chaos in Belarusian society.


The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress said that Belarus and China are “all-weather partners” — this means that the states have established trustful all-round strategic cooperation. China has always respected the path of development chosen by the Belarusian people. The Chinese side acknowledges and welcomes the efforts aimed to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty and security. Zhang Yesui expressed confidence that the Belarusian nation lead by the current head of state is capable to determine their further development path independently.

He highly assessed the work of his Belarusian colleagues to expand relations with China, as well as to promote interaction between parliaments.


The sides discussed a plan of actions of the legislative bodies of the two countries, issues of strengthening trade and economic cooperation, mutual support in international affairs, joint response to emergency situations.

The videoconference was attended by the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on Health, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy Lyudmila Makarina-Kibak, Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on International Affairs Andrei Savinykh.
