On 29 April 2021, a videoconference meeting of the IPU Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs was held in preparation of the 142nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Debate was held on the theme “The UN75 Declaration and follow-up process”.

On the occasion of its 75th anniversary in September 2020, the United Nations hosted a major summit to review its role as the leading multilateral organization for global governance, able to respond to global challenges such as growing inequality and poverty, climate change, biodiversity loss and resource exploitation and the threat of nuclear proliferation and armed conflict.

The UN75 Declaration highlighted twelve commitments to tackle these challenges.

During of the IPU Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs meeting parliamentarians considered the UN Common Agenda75 as input into a major UN Secretary-General’s report to be presented this summer.

The online meeting was attended by the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs Andrei Savinykh.
