On 29 April  2021 Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives Valery Mitskevich took part in a video conference with He Wei, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), to discuss the results of the two sessions held in China in March 2021 and to exchange views on the cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative.

Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives noted that this year important domestic events have taken place in Belarus and China, which laid the foundation for the further social and economic development of the countries. The 6th Belarusian People’s Congress took place in February. Two sessions of the National People’s Congress and the People’s Political Consultative Conference were held in Beijing in early March.

The parties discussed cooperation in trade, economic, social and investment spheres.

Valery Mitskevich stressed that the bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and economy, has been steadily growing. China has become the second largest trading partner for the first time in history of Belarus.


During the meeting attendees discussed issues concerning investment cooperation and further development of the industrial park Great Stone.

The joint fight against the pandemic has also become a fine moment of cooperation between China and Belarus, an example of truly friendly relations. At the very beginning of the pandemic Belarus was the first to provide assistance to China and in February 2021 Belarus received 100,000 doses of the Chinese vaccine against coronavirus.  The Vice Speaker expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for provided assistance.

Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives  spoke in favor of joint interaction at international forums to promote initiatives in the field of information security. Digital security and information sovereignty of a state are now becoming an integral element of global security. Valery Mitskevich noted that the House of Representatives has prepared a draft resolution on international information security and the creation of a digital neighborhood belt. The proposal is in line with Beijing’s move to launch a global data security initiative.


He Wei stated that China and Belarus are continuously strengthening their political mutual trust and are developing practical cooperation in all areas. He also said that food security has been ensured in China, among other things, due to high-quality, ecological Belarusian goods. Chinese consumers are happy to buy Belarusian products, they like food, and the country's leadership welcomes the arrival of Belarusian producers to the Chinese market.

Recalling his trip in July 2019 to the Forum on Regional Cooperation and Development under the Belt and Road Initiative, He Wei spoke warmly about the Republic of Belarus. He also invited the Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives Valery Mitskevich to visit China and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference at a convenient time.

 The meeting was attended by Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on National Security Oleg Belokonev, Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs Olga Petrashova, Member of the Standing Commission on Environment, Natural Resources and Chernobyl Catastrophe Pavel Pokonechny.
