On 3 June 2019, in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus a meeting was held between H.E. Mr. Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, and H.E. Mr. Andrej Danko, Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, in the framework of the official visit to the Republic of Belarus of the Slovak parliamentary delegation.
This is the first official visit of the Speaker of the Parliament of Slovakia to the Republic of Belarus in the history of the bilateral relations.
Vladimir Andreichenko warmly welcomed the Slovak guests,
stressing that Slovakia is one of the closest EU countries for Belarus.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National
Assembly of the Republic of Belarus noted that the Belarusian-Slovak relations
at international parliamentary organizations are developing in a constructive
way. At the same time, words of gratitude were expressed to the Slovak
parliamentarians who repeatedly supported the initiatives of the Belarusian
colleagues in the framework of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and other
organizations. Vladimir Andreichenko proposed to expand cooperation at the
multilateral level and use Slovakia’s chairmanship in the Visegrad Group to
review and implement mutually beneficial projects.
Vladimir Andreichenko focused on the issues of the bilateral
cooperation. The rise in the turnover between the two countries was noted with
satisfaction. According to the Chairman of the House of Representatives, its
further growth will be facilitated by the successful implementation of the
Belarusian-Slovak projects in accordance with the agreements reached at the
government level, further development of the legal framework and expansion of
According to the head of the Slovak Parliament, the two countries have many areas in which they can work together successfully. And it needs to be done right now. This also applies to the promotion of initiatives at international platforms and bilateral cooperation in the areas of interest to both parties.
Speaking about the bilateral format, Andrej Danko noted that he sees the greatest potential in the spheres of health and education. Therefore, he will advocate for the mutual recognition of higher education diplomas.
Both sides paid special attention to the upcoming 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders and the 75th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising. Gratitude was expressed to the Belarusians and Slovaks who fought together for liberation and victory over fascism. The importance of preserving this historical memory by young generations was emphasized.
During the discussion of other areas of cooperation, the Slovak guests, including Anton Siekel, President of the Slovak Olympic Committee, expressed admiration for the opportunities created in Belarus for the development of sports. A gratitude was expressed for the excellent conditions that the Belarusian side provided in Minsk to the athletes of Slovakia and other countries participating in the II European Games.
