08 September 2020

On 8 September 2020, the Chairperson of  the Standing Commission on International Affairs Andrei Savinykh took part in the videoconference organized within the framework of the meeting of the Commission on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in order to exchange opinions on the results of the presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus.

Andrei Savinykh informed PACE deputies about the current situation in the country in the post-election period. It is obvious that there is a need to develop a national dialogue to reform the country’s political system in the interests of Belarusian citizens, their well-being and stable development of Belarus. At the same time, it was noted that such a process should be based on the principles of openness, honesty and mutual respect and should be possible only in strict compliance with the Belarusian legislation.

PACE deputies supported Belarus’ aspiration for democratic reforms and noted interest in continuing cooperation with our country in the hope of seeing it as the 48th member of the Council of Europe.
