12 November 2018, members of the House of Representatives had a working meeting with the IMF mission headed by Jacques Miniane.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Standing Commission on Economic Policies V.A. Shchepov; Chairman of the Standing Commission on Industries, Fuel and Energy, Transport and Communications A.A. Rybak; Chairperson of the Standing Commission on Budget and Finance L.A. Dobrynina; and Chairperson of the Standing Commission on Labour and Social Affairs T.P. Krasovskaya.

In his introductory remarks, Mr. Jacques Miniane noted the productiveness of earlier meetings that took place in November 2017 and in July this year, and thanked the MPs for the opportunity to meet and discuss issues of economic development of Belarus to ensure its sustainable growth.

In particular, the head of the mission stressed that this visit was held in line with Article IV of the Agreement with the International Monetary Fund as part of the review of the international monetary system in order to ensure its efficient functioning and as part of the review over the compliance by the member state with its obligations.

Representatives of the International Monetary Fund highlighted such positive factors of the Belarus economy as the achieved stability of the exchange rate and introduction of inflation controls.

In turn, MPs told the IMF mission about the legislative decisions either approved by the Parliament of the Republic of Belarus or ready to be discussed by the House of Representatives aiming to enable investment, promote entrepreneurship, improve the tax environment, and enhance the efficiency of state expenditure. In particular, they talked about the draft Tax Code, a package of legislative bills, discussed the amendments to the laws «On privatization of state property and transformation of state unitary enterprises in open joint-stock companies», «On Investments», and «On business companies».

The participants in the meeting exchanged views on a range of issues related to socioeconomic topics and emphasized the importance of such a dialogue and exchange of experience.

The MPs thanked IMF mission head Jacques Miniane and his colleagues for the meeting and expressed their confidence in further bilateral cooperation for the stabilization and ensured economic growth in the Republic of Belarus.
