14 November 2018, Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Margret Kiener-Nellen, Member of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation, Co-Chair of the Switzerland — Belarus Parliamentary Friendship Group, Head of the Swiss parliamentary delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
Vladimir Andreichenko thanked Margret Kiener Nellen for her personal contribution to the development of the Belarusian-Swiss relations and in this respect for the active work of the Switzerland — Belarus parliamentary friendship group. The Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus noted that in spite of the fact that only a year has passed since the foundation of the group there are already plenty of success achieved.
Margret Kiener-Nellen informed that the Swiss side highly appreciates the results of the official visit of Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, in February — March 2018 to the Swiss Confederation. The main activities of the Switzerland — Belarus Parliamentary Friendship Group include the promotion of the implementation of the agreements reached during the visit. Margret Kiener-Nellen expressed satisfaction that this work brings concrete positive results, including in the trade and economic sphere. In her opinion, the decision taken by the Head of the Belarusian State in July 2018 to extend the visa-free period of staying of foreign citizens in Belarus up to 30 days, provided they enter the country and then depart the state border via the National Minsk Airport, is very timely and important for the expansion and intensification of the Belarusian-Swiss contacts.
During the meeting the sides also discussed issues of interaction within the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Vladimir Andreichenko congratulated Margret Kiener-Nellen on her election as Head of the General Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on democracy, human rights and humanitarian questions. He expressed conviction that her activities at this position of the high importance would help to advance the unifying agenda of this organization, and confirmed the readiness of the Belarusian parliamentarians to provide comprehensive support to Margret Kiener-Nellen in this regard.
