Dmitry Shevtsov, Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives of the Standing Commission on International Affairs, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to Maintain Contacts with the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (AIPA) is taking part in the 38th General Assembly of the AIPA, which takes place in Manila (Republic of the Philippines) from 14 to 19 September 2017.
About 300 parliamentarians from 10 member countries of the Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as from 9 observer parliaments (Australia, Belarus, East Timor, India, China, New Zealand, Russia, Japan, the European Parliament) participate in the session of the Assembly.
At the plenary meeting Dmitry Shevtsov congratulated parliamentarians with the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN and noted that the Parliament of Belarus has been actively participating in the Assemblies of the AIPA since 2011. The visits of the chairmen of the parliaments of Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, of the Vice-Chairman of the Parliament of Vietnam became an important result of the participation in the activities of the AIPA in 2012 — 2017. This period is also connected with the adoption of numerous laws on the ratification by the Republic of Belarus of international agreements with the ASEAN countries.
Dmitry Shevtsov called for strengthening ties and expanding cooperation between the countries of Eurasian Economic Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
