01 June 2021

On 1 June 2021, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko met the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation Evgeny Lukyanov.

The Chairman congratulated the Head of the Russian Embassy with the beginning of his diplomatic mission in the republic and underlined that Belarus attaches great importance to strengthening and further development of cooperation with Russia on the principles of friendship, trust and mutual understanding.

“The foundation of relations, first of all, is, surely, the economy. We started off well in 2021, and the turnover has already increased by approximately 20 percent. Our Presidents spoke about this when they met in Sochi. Parliamentarians are also actively involved in the development of political, trade, economic and cultural relations. We maintain very good constructive relations with the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Many events are held within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia. Undoubtedly, the tone of this work is set by the Presidents of our countries, who have already met three times this year, and the Prime Ministers. Considering that the times are hectic today, difficult to predict and even, I would say, explosive, of course, we need to meet more often and discuss various issues. Somewhere we need to work proactively, somewhere we need to adjust the agenda of our meetings, because today, let’s face it, not everyone likes that there are states such as the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on the political map of the world. We see this from the recent events, attempts to isolate our country. I think that we have a lot of topics for cooperation, a lot of unrealized opportunities, and this is the key to our future success!”, said Vladimir Andreichenko.

Evgeny Lukyanov noted that “the appointment of the Ambassador is not only a great honor, but also a great responsibility. This is precisely due to the nature of relations between our countries and the challengers that we are routinely coping with in political and economic spheres. And, of course, there is one big factor that will help me in my activities – this is not only the kind attitude of the Belarusian authorities to the Russian Embassy, to Russia, but above all the working human and political contact of our leaders”.

During the meeting, the parties discussed various aspects of the international agenda, the development of bilateral relations, in particular, the implementation of the Union State programs, the formation and execution of its budget, the implementation of new mutually beneficial projects, further strengthening of cooperation between the parliamentarians of the two countries for legislative support of priority areas for development of public relations and integration. The Chairman invited the Russian diplomat to take part in the upcoming session of the Parliamentary Assembly in mid-June, as well as to visit the 30th International Festival of Arts “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk”, the programme of which will include the Day of the Union State.

The Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on International Affairs Andrei Savinykh was also present at the meeting.
