On 11 April 2017, the official visit of the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan continued.
Topical
issues of the bilateral agenda were discussed during the official negotiations
of Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the
National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, with Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister
of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and Mamnoon Hussain, President of the
Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
At the
meeting of Vladimir Andreichenko with Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for
Planning, Development and Reform of Pakistan, both sides confirmed their
interest in implementing joint projects in the spheres of industry, housing
construction, agriculture, human development. In addition, Ahsan Iqbal informed
the Belarusian delegation about the implementation of the project on the
construction of the China-Pakistan economic corridor in the territory of the
country.
The issues
of intensification of bilateral cooperation in the agro-industrial complex became
a direct topic of the conversation between the Chairman of the House of
Representatives and President of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited S.T.Mahmood.
Vladimir
Andreichenko thanked the head of the bank for assistance in organizing the
first Belarusian-Pakistani agricultural forum. In turn, S.T.Mahmood stressed
that the Pakistani market opened up huge opportunities for Belarusian
manufacturers to promote their products and develop mutually beneficial
cooperation in the related fields of the economy.
On the same
day, the Belarusian parliamentary delegation took part in the first
Belarusian-Pakistani agricultural forum.
In his
welcoming speech, the Chairman of the House of Representatives stressed that a
significant increase in business activity between the two countries was made
possible thanks to the agreements reached at the highest level over the past
two years.
Describing
the potential of the domestic agricultural industry, Vladimir Andreichenko informed
the forum participants that the agro-industrial complex of the country had a
balanced production system, including agriculture, the industry for the
processing of agricultural raw materials, agrarian services, scientific
provision and training of personnel. He noted that Belarus was among the world’s
top 20 leaders in terms of agricultural land per capita. In the republic,
large-scale agricultural production had been preserved, which accounted for
more than 70 percent of the gross output of the village. We managed to
seriously strengthen the material and technical base of agricultural
enterprises, deepen the modernization of processing enterprises, stressed Vladimir
Andreichenko. The machine-building complex of the country was able to supply
the whole range of modern agricultural machinery – powerful tractors,
harvesters and other equipment.
As the
priorities of the Belarusian-Pakistani cooperation in the agro-industrial
sphere, the Chairman of the House of Representatives called for the increase of
the mutual trade turnover, the creation of joint processing enterprises, the
exchange of advanced achievements in the field of agrarian science, and the
organization of joint training of personnel. He also expressed confidence that
a productive dialogue between representatives of the business circles of
Belarus and Pakistan would continue in the framework of the traditional
agricultural exhibition to be held in June 2017 in Minsk.
Within the
framework of the forum, presentations were made of agricultural and
technological potentials of the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of
Pakistan, Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited and the business opportunities of the
two countries. A memorandum of understanding and cooperation was signed between
the Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University and the Agricultural
University of Faisalabad, as well as a memorandum of understanding and cooperation
between Gomselmash and Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited. In addition, business
negotiations between representatives of Pakistani and Belarusian companies were
held.
