15 April 2021

On 15 April 2021, under the auspices of the IPA CIS, together with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly and the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, an international parliamentary conference was held on “Global Threats and Challenges in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic – Terrorism and Violent Extremism”.

The conference participants noted that international terrorism and extremism are global threats and must be combated together. In order to prevent the risks of terrorism and eliminate sources that violate international stability, it is necessary to develop a new strategic course for the international community as a whole, excluding double standards. The parties to the inter-parliamentary dialogue also drew attention to the need to continue work on legislative consolidation of measures to counter the spread of deliberately false messages about acts of terrorism on the Internet, and to establish additional requirements for telecom operators.

They called on to pay special attention to the promotion of the values of peacefulness and tolerance in societies. The conference was held in the format of four thematic sessions. The online conference was attended by deputies of the House of Representatives Aleksandr Danchenko, Tengiz Dumbadze, Igor Martynov, Valentina Razhanets, Andrei Savinykh.
