02 June 2021

On 2 June 2021, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Sajjad Haider Khan.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives congratulated the Ambassador of Pakistan on the commencement of his diplomatic mission in Belarus and noted that our bilateral relations are sincere and trusting.

“In 2017, the Belarusian parliamentary delegation paid an official visit to Pakistan. Meetings with the President of the country, Speakers of both chambers of the Parliament, the Prime Minister, and Ministers were arranged. Specific projects and action programs were developed, and as a result an Agreement on Cooperation between the Parliaments was signed. Additionally, a fruitful business forum was held on the development of cooperation in the field of agriculture, where the parties agreed to organize enterprises for the production of meat and milk products from Belarusian raw materials. We have made progress in various spheres: the first 45-ton BELAZ dump truck has started to work in Pakistan, baby food supplies have begun, a business plan for organizing an assembly production of tractors in Punjab province is at the stage of approval,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

According to the Chairman of the House of Representatives, the implementation of previously planned projects will be facilitated by holding in Minsk the next Belarusian-Pakistani agricultural forum and a video conference of the heads of the parliaments profile commissions of the two countries, within which specific issues of trade and economic cooperation will be discussed.

It was noted that a solid legal foundation has been created for work in all areas. More than 80 documents have been signed, providing conditions for the dynamic development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Parliamentarians should more actively promote the intensification of contacts between the regions, business circles of Belarus and Pakistan, stressed the Chairman of the House of Representatives.

Sajjad Haider Khan thanked the Belarusian Side for the warm welcome and noted that he is very proud that such good relations have been established between the two countries in all spheres. “The development of cooperation is facilitated by excellent contacts between the Heads of States,” the Pakistani diplomat highlighted. He informed about the work being done to increase the pace and scale of interaction in agriculture, industry, medicine, education, culture and other fields.

During the meeting the parties also discussed the organization of an official visit of the Pakistani parliamentary delegation to Belarus in July 2021 and participation of representatives of the business community in this visit.

The Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on International Affairs Andrei Savinykh also attended the meeting.
