21 April 2021

On 21 April 2021, the Chairperson of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of Belarus Victor Sorochan.

Welcoming the guest, the Chairperson of the House of Representatives stressed that Belarus and Moldova have long-standing friendly relations and it is very important that they have always been and are being built on the principles of equality, trust and mutual respect. At the international level, we always get the support of our Moldovan colleagues and, from our side, also provide it. It is important that inter-parliamentary relations are at the same high level. We have an agreement on inter-parliamentary cooperation, and for the future we need to develop a roadmap for its implementation, — Vladimir Andreichenko said.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives noted the effective cooperation in the economic sphere, drawing attention to the noticeable increase in trade between the countries in the first months of 2021, and expressed confidence that parliamentarians would play an active role in strengthening the bilateral relations, including at the interregional level. This will be facilitated both by the participation of the deputies in the meetings of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Moldovan Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, and by the visit to the Republic of Belarus of the Chairperson of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Zinaida Greceanîi.

Victor Sorochan highly assessed the bilateral cooperation of the two countries and the level of interaction with the Belarusian side. The ambassador thanked for the significant assistance provided by our country in returning Moldovan citizens to their homeland amid the closure of borders around the world at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The Moldovan diplomat noted that cooperation between the countries is successfully developing in various fields — joint projects for the production of tractors are being implemented, issues of creating assembly plants for Mogilev elevators and MAZ buses are being worked out in Moldova. There is also interest in using in his country the Belarusian experience in developing milk and dairy products, expanding cooperation in mechanical engineering and other areas, as well as further developing the bilateral legal framework. In conclusion, the sides discussed issues of further strengthening the bilateral relations and the visit of the head of the Moldovan Parliament to the Republic of Belarus.

The meeting was also attended by the Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on Environment, Natural Resources and Chernobyl Catastrophe, head of the working group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Nikolai Vasilkov.
