On 22 January 2020, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko visited the Holocaust Remembrance Center Yad Vashem during his visit to the State of Israel.
Vladimir Andreichenko transferred the copies of documents about the deputies of the BSSR Supreme Soviet of the 1st Convocation Boris Perochinsky and Foma Lasko, who fought and died in the Great Patriotic War, to the Remembrance Center, and held a conversation with the Director of the Center’s Archive Haim Gertner.
During the conversation, it was noted that about 700 Belarusians who saved Jews during the Nazi occupation were awarded the «Righteous Among the Nations» title for their heroism.
«You are doing a much-needed job not only for Israel and Belarus, but also for the whole world,» the Chairman of the House of Representatives said, stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation to preserve the memory of those tragic chapters of history.
Vladimir Andreichenko noted the willingness of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus to actively work in that regard. In addition, he informed the Director of the Center’s Archive that the Glubokoye and Ushachi Districts of the Vitebsk Region are interested in implementing a number of joint projects with Yad Vashem. They involve conducting research, creating museum expositions, holding exhibitions, thematic seminars and conferences, organizing educational trips for schoolchildren to the places of memory of the victims of the Holocaust and the sites of military glory of the partisan groups among which fought the Jews in these areas during the War.
Emphasizing the importance of developing cooperation to
preserve historical memory at the regional level, the Chairman of the House of
Representatives invited the Yad Vashem leadership to take part in events
dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Ghetto destroyed by the Nazis in
1943, which will be held in Glubokoye in August of this year.
At the end of the meeting, Vladimir Andreichenko left an entry in the Distinguished Visitors’ Book of the Yad Vashem Remembrance Center. «In Belarus, as well as in Israel, we remember the Jews who died during the terrible years of the Holocaust and World War II. Let our joint efforts to preserve the memory of these tragedies become a guarantee that such monstrous atrocities will never happen again,» reads the entry.
Vladimir Andreichenko is visiting Jerusalem to participate in the events of the International Leaders Forum dedicated to the International Remembrance Day of the victims of the Holocaust and the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz.
