On 25 February 2021, the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE PA took part in the activities of the second day of the OSCE PA Winter online-meeting: the Joint Session of the three General Committees as well as the Meeting of the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security.

At the opening of the Joint Session of the three General Committees, OSCE PA members heard keynote addresses by President of the Austrian National Council Wolfgang Sobotka, OSCE PA President Peter Bowness, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Foreign Minister of Sweden Ann Linde, and OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid.

Members of the Assembly discussed issues such as multilateralism and inter-parliamentary diplomacy, the crisis in and around Ukraine, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the situation in Georgia, migration, economic and environmental security under the COVID-19 pandemic.

The General Committee on Political Affairs and Security heard presentations by Ambassador Neil Bush, Chair of the Security Committee of the OSCE Permanent Council, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the OSCE, Ambassador Philip T. Reeker, Acting Assistant US Secretary of State, Ambassador Kairat Abdrakhmanov, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Ambassador Yasar Halit Cevik, Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine.

Rapporteur of the OSCE PA General Committee on Political Affairs and Security Laurynas Kasciunas (Lithuania) presented ideas and concepts for the committee’s report and resolution for the OSCE PA’s Annual Session this July.

Speaking at the meeting of the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security, Valery Voronetsky, member of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE PA, underlined that Belarus confirms its principled position aimed at implementing unifying initiatives on acute global problems in international organizations that are demanded by all states. Belarusian parliamentarian announced the initiative of Belarus to submit a draft resolution on «Drug Use Prevention among Children and Youth» to the upcoming 29th summer session of the OSCE PA in Bucharest.

The Joint Session of the three General Committees was also attended by members of the Belarusian delegation to the OSCE PA Andrei Savinykh (head of delegation), Sergei Rachkov (deputy head of delegation), Denis Karas, Ivan Mamaiko.
