On 31 May 2017, in the House of Representatives, Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, had a meeting with Fiona Gibb, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Belarus.

Andreichenko expressed deep condolences about the tragedy that took place on 22
May in Manchester and wished the British people who were still on treatment to
recover as soon as possible after the terrorist attack.
As the
Chairman of the House of Representatives noted, the fight against terrorism,
drug trafficking, illegal migration were interrelated issues that had to be
resolved within the framework of close interaction of all stakeholders at the
international level. That is why, on the initiative of the Belarusian
parliamentarians, the strengthening of mutual trust and cooperation in the
region of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe was
identified as the main theme for the forthcoming Minsk session of the
Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE from 5 to 9 July.
Special
attention was paid to the development of the Belarusian-British cooperation in
the political, trade-economic, cultural, human rights and other spheres, the
use of the parliamentary dimension for this purpose. The parties noted the high
potential of this cooperation and the mutual interest in its implementation,
discussed promising ways of cooperation in this direction. On the initiative of
Fiona Gibb, questions were raised about the preparations for the forthcoming
elections of deputies of the local councils of deputies of the Republic of
Belarus of the twenty-eighth convocation in 2018.
