On 5 June 2020, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to the Republic of Belarus Aloisia Worgetter.
Welcoming the Austrian diplomat in the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko noted her personal contribution to organizing the first official visit of the President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko to Austria in November 2019.
The Chairman
of the House of Representatives emphasized that the meeting between the Belarus
President and the President of the Austrian National Council Wolfgang Sobotka during
this visit facilitated raising the inter-parliamentary relations of the two
countries to a new level.
For the
first time in history, a friendship group with Belarus has been established in
the Austrian Parliament. A similar working group on cooperation with the
Austrian Parliament is set up in the National Assembly of the Republic of
Belarus of the seventh convocation. The group is headed by Valery Voronetsky, Member
of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National
Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs.
«Close
contacts at the group level are an effective form of cooperation and will
contribute to the development of relations not only in political, but also in trade
and economic spheres», commented Vladimir Andreichenko. «I hope that Austrian
parliamentarians will find the opportunity to visit Belarus in the near future.
This will be a good addition to the existing format of interaction between our
parliaments at multilateral platforms, in particular in the OSCE PA», he added.
As Aloisia Worgetter
noted, the visit of the President of the Republic of Belarus became an
important event in life of the two countries. One of its significant results
was an increase in the number of supporters of a more intensive development of
relations between Austria and Belarus. Preparatory work is already underway for
the visit of the Austrian parliamentary delegation to Minsk in the fall of
2020. The delegation will include parliamentarians, members of the friendship
group with the Belarusian Parliament.
The
Ambassador also informed about the projects prepared and planned by the Embassy
of the Republic of Austria for the development of bilateral trade and economic
cooperation. An exchange of views took place on the implementation of these and
other measures aimed at implementing the agreements reached earlier at the
highest level and resolving socio-economic issues taking into account the
emerging epidemiological situation.
