On 7 September 2018 Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, took part in a meeting with Ali Larijani, Speaker of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The meeting was held within the framework of the official visit to the Republic of Belarus of the parliamentary delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, and Ali Larijani, Speaker of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran, discussed topical issues of the development of the relations between the two countries, the role of the parliaments in addressing them.
The parties agreed to actively promote the preservation and development of the existing ties, identifying new areas of cooperation and points of growth using parliamentary methods. It was decided to strengthen interaction not only at the level of the existing parliamentary working groups on cooperation, but also the profile commissions of the parliaments of the two countries, and to intensify their participation in the events held by the governmental agencies and the mixed Belarusian-Iranian commission for economic cooperation. Serious attention was paid to strengthening the bilateral legal framework, working out the mechanisms for implementing the Memorandum of Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation signed in 2017.
Vladimir Andreichenko noted that to achieve these goals, inter-parliamentary work should become more systematic and comprehensive. To this end, it was proposed to prepare a “roadmap” of parliamentary partnership between the countries, which would reflect specific practical joint activities.
Following the meeting, the leaders of the parliamentary working groups on cooperation between Belarus and Iran signed a mmemorandum of cooperation in the presence of the heads of the parliaments of the two countries.
