On 8 September 2021, the Deputiesof the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Yevgeny Zaytsev and Svetlana Odintsova took part in an online-seminar of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly “Enhancing the Implementation of UNSCR 1325 across the OSCE Region: Parliamentarians’ Contribution to Women, Peace and Security”.
The meeting included presentations by the OSCE PA President Margareta Cederfelt (Sweden), Secretary General Roberto Montella, the OSCE PA Special Representative on Gender Issues Hedy Fry (Canada), the Special Representative on the South Caucasus Kari Henriksen (Norway), the Chair of the OSCE MenEngage Network Ambassador Neil Bush and the Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre Ambassador Tuula Yrjölä.
The parliamentarians focused attention on how political leaders and parliamentarians across the OSCE region can further the Women, Peace and Security agenda. The participants noted the importance of replicating best practices around the OSCE area in implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 underlined the central role of women in conflict prevention and resolution.
